2009 - 03/26 - STP Snowmobile Trails Closed

Snowmobile Trails Now “Closed”

The Sudbury Trail Plan Association wishes to advise all snowmobilers that all the trails maintained by the eight member clubs of the Sudbury Trail Plan are now officially closed for the season.

“Club volunteers are in the process of removing all safety and directional signage installed to make your snowmobiling experience a safe one,” states STP President Chuck Breathat. “Snowmobilers are therefore asked to abide by the agreements held with private landowners and cease operating their snowmachines on the trails. Failure to abide by the land use agreement could result in the loss of trail access for next season.” STP President Chuck Breathat also stated,” with this season’s significant snowfall, allowed us to commence grooming on Dec 9th and end grooming on Mar 19th, 2009”.

STP reminds snowmobilers and others that a landowner may still bring trespassing charges if persons are found illegally on their property. Snowmobile trails on private property are off limits year-round to ATV’s, walkers, bikers, and all other user groups unless land use permission has been specifically granted. Breathat notes that over 80% of STP’s 1200 km of trails are on private land so other user groups must ensure they know where they are riding. Private land includes properties held by large corporations such as Vale/Inco, Xstrata Nickel, CPR and Hydro One.

The Sudbury Trail Plan wish to thank; land owners, trail permit buyers, sponsoring businesses, and club volunteers for their support this past season. On behalf of all snowmobilers, STP would like to extend a thank you to S.T.O.P, O.P.P, City of Greater Sudbury Police Services, and all other official agencies that worked hard to ensure safety on the trails.
